Fandom Resources # β
- The Three Laws of Fandom - If you wish to take part in any fandom, you need to accept and respect these three laws.
- Fandom Coders - a community where tech professionals and coding hobbyists alike can share and discuss their coding projects. This community gets the blame for my v2.0 complete redesign and restructure of this site by simply existing.
- Fanlore - a comprehensive wiki of fandom history, covering canon and fanon.
- Yes, you are allowed. - You are allowed to write the fic you want, rather than the fic you feel obligated to write.
Events # β
- Yuletide - the annual rare and obscure fandoms fic exchange.
- Fan Flashworks - an all-fandoms multi-media flashworks community, posting a themed challenge every ten days or so.
- Supernatural Kink Community - a long-running kink meme of the Supernatural fandom. Recently moved from LiveJournal to Dreamwidth π₯³
- Fancake - a multifandom thematic recommendation community where all members are welcome to post recs, and fanworks of all shapes and sizes are accepted.
- Bro Bone Bang - an SPN fandom event focused on Sam/Dean smut fanworks (and it's a whole lot of fun).
Social Media # β
Fandom-friendly social platforms
- Dreamwidth - an LJ clone with all the good stuff from that platform and none of the bad.
- Pillowfort - fan-run and fan-funded platform with the best parts of Tumblr and LJ baked in.
Mastodon/Fediverse Instances # β
It is very important to do your own due diligence in regards to the choice of a fannish Mastodon1/Fediverse2 server. Different instances can have very different rules and cultures. Hit the 'explore' and 'local' options to check them out in advance, and ask friends for recommendations. Check out A Super Simple Guide to Fandom Masto by asya.

Know of a fandom instance that should be on this list? Hit me up @bloodwrites@fanglitch.space
You can also use tools like Fedi.Garden to find an instance to join.
Tools # β
- PostyBirb - a desktop app that can help you crosspost your content to a crapton of sites including Twitter, Mastodon, Tumblr and Pillowfort.
- Color Designer - various colour and palette tools.
- Mastofeed - embed your Mastodon feed on your website
- The Other MastoFeed - automate sending your RSS content to your Mastodon account.
- fediverse.info Directory - a growing list of people and topics that can help you discover users with mutual interests on the fediverse.
- Zonelets is a nifty tool that can make a blog out of your static Neocities (or whatever) site.
Writing Tools # β
- novelWriter - a markdown-like text editor designed for writing novels and larger projects of many smaller plain text documents.
- Manuskript - a free and open source writing app (like Scrivener) that works with markdown files, which means your files can be edited with any editor that can handle plain text. Futureproof and no vendor lock in.
- Obsidian - imagine a combo notes app, personal wiki, file organiser that works with markdown files, and can be as straightforward or as complicated as you want it to be. I use it to keep track of the vast number of writing snippets, WiPs, plot bunnies, and outlines on my hard drive. There's a desktop and a mobile app, and all your stuff stays within your control and can be edited with any other app that can handle plain text files. NO VENDOR LOCK IN. FUCK YEAH.
- Markdown Reference @ daringfireball.net
- ThiefMD - my current writing app of choice, it occupies a space halfway between Scrivener and a plain text editor, uses markdown, and works with plain text files so no vendor lock-in. It's my new favourite thing!
The Static Web # β
- The Yesterweb - dedicated to the internet and how it's changed
- Finding the Old Web - de-commercialized and personalized internet experiences
- ichi - a tiny internet community where people can create their homepages for free
- I'm a fucking webmaster -
Back in 1993, you weren't a designer, developer, copywriter or in devops. You were a fucking webmaster, and your name was at the bottom of every page.
- Feed Creator - Generate RSS and JSON feeds from a set of links or other web page elements. Perfect for sites which donβt offer their own feeds.
Neocities Sites # β
- Not Bionic Reading - Bionic Reading, but free
- neowiki - where I finally found the answer to why the Neocities CLI wasn't working for me
- fogsrollingin - Alex has a vast collection of recs, meta, and other projects.
Random Sites I Think Are Awesome # β
- The Sweetest Thing - an anime/manga shrine for a property I know nothing about but I love that the site owner revived and recreated the site design 20 years later.

- Mastodon is a decentralised, federated, community-owned, ad-free microblogging software. Different mastodon servers (aka instances) can talk to each other, so you only need an account on one to interact with the entire network (aka 'the fediverse').
- Mastodon is only one of many different software packages to make up the entire network (aka 'the fediverse'). Others include Pixelfed, Calckey, and Akkoma.
